We serve as advisors on a number of platforms and programs that enable innovators to partner with the Health System to take their ideas from concept to care delivery transformation.

Caring WiselyTM

HSII Health

The goal of the Health Systems Implementation Initiative (HSII) is to increase adoption of evidence-based practices that enhance health care quality, outcomes and value by creating a foundation to adopt more of these practices. UCSF is one of 42 health system participants receiving funding from PCORI to implement HSII projects that advance the adoption of new evidence.

E-Star Program

UCSF will be an established center for embedded scientists pursuing LHS research and leadership careers in areas such as patient and stakeholder engagement, informatics, and outcome evaluation in health systems. As an established academic center, UCSF will lead scholar recrutiment, curriculum development, and provide a training environment connecting scholars to Health System projects.

Open Wide Learning Lab (OWLL)

OWLL is a learning lab operating across the UTHEALTH Houston Dental School and the UCSF Dental School. It is designed to advance dental patient safety using big data and human-centered design methods to identify, investigate, develop interventions and evaluate implementation of interventions across the two institutions.

We build design thinking capacity across the organization through  learning experiences and co-creation workshops.

IMS 243 HUMAN-CENTERED DESIGN

This 10 week course is an elective in the Implementation Science Certificate Program and is open to clinicians, public health practitioners, and healthcare/health services researchers.

Learners gain foundational knowledge of human-centered design in a 'learn by doing' format.

Learners apply design methods and tools as they work in teams using a virtual collaboration environment to solve  problems in public health and medicine.

CO-CREATION WORKSHOPS

Workshops take a variety of forms depending on the needs of the requesting team. Examples: organizing and facilitating ideation sessions using reserach insights as inputs to concept generation; using design thinking approaches and structured activities to move a team from a current state to visualizing a future state defining 'what has to be true' in order to manifest the future state.

COMMUNICATE WITH IMPACT

This workshop introduces underlying design principles to presenting information that increase readability and cognitive processing. Participants engage in hands on exercises to apply these principles to increase effectiveness and impact of an example communication.
